Swim Team

RipTide Swim Team

Becoming a member of the RipTide YMCA Swim Team means fun, fitness and teamwork. The RipTide swim team is a competitive swim program designed to challenge and grow swimmers both in and out of the water. Trained coaches focus on stroke technique as well as endurance and fitness during practices to improve swimmer's times as they work toward their end of season goals. The YMCA swim team promotes healthy lifestyles while embracing the four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

Swim Team Registration

Registration will open on the first day of fall session registration for winter swim team, and the first day of spring session registration for our swimmer team, and is first come first served. Registration will be in-house only to ensure families are registering for the correct section/practice time based on their evaluations.

Before registering, swimmers must complete the mandatory swim assessment. Dates for the assessment will be posted on Team Unify, in the YMCA monthly member newsletter, and around the YMCA.  The Swimmers must also have a Child/Youth or Family YMCA membership. You can register at the Delaware Community Center YMA.  To receive information on pricing and schedules, please fill out this interest form.

Mandatory Swim Team and Parent Meeting

Each season will officially begin with a mandatory meeting for parents/guardians and team members. Please make sure to have at least one adult at the meeting. Team members should wear active clothing and tennis shoes. This will be a time for families to get to know the coaches, to gather information about the season, and to understand the level of commitment to the team and learn about volunteer and fundraising opportunities.

Volunteer Requirement

YMCA Swimming is only possible when the entire community comes together to make it happen. To this end, we depend on swim families to volunteer. Opportunities will include: swim officials, timers, fundraising, set-up/tear-down, concessions and more. All families are required to volunteer. If unable to volunteer, a fee of $100 will be applied. More information will be provided at the parent meeting.

Swim Practice Information

Swim Practices will start mid-September and will run through Champs in early March. There may be modified/cancelled practices for holidays, pool closures, etc... Swimmers should strive to attend as often as possible to see the most growth. Specific practice times will be posted on our Team Unify website at the beginning of each season.

Cost

All swim team costs will be posted online on our registration system a week prior to registration. Cost varies between age groups and swimmer levels based on a variety of factors and will change each season.

Equipment

Swimmers will be provided with a Riptide Swim Cap. All other equipment, suits, and spirit items must be purchased by swimmer. Swimmers are required to have an approved competitive swim suit and goggles. Spirit Items will be available for purchase at the Parent Team Meeting.
