ANSWER QUESTION
I would like to inquire about Personal Training at the Downtown location.

I am primarily interested in definition and getting back to a more muscular shape after many years of self neglect.

Thanks,
Michael

ANSWER ANSWER
Hello, Michael, In addition to what the other trainers may suggest, please consider the following... If you are interested in definition and a more muscular shape, try starting off your resistance training with using a light weights, higher repetitions and finishing up with about 20 minutes of cardio. You can also do strictly cardio on the days that you do not do your resistance training. After you've shed your desired pounds, you can start doing heavier resistance training. Incorporating a healthy diet into your fitness goals is equally important.

Our personal trainers are here and available when the Y opens until closing, every day. If you would like to schedule an appointment with a trainer, please don't hesitate to contact us; we're here to help! We can continue to discuss your fitness goals.

I hope this information is helpful to you. Again, thank you for your support of the YMCA.

ANSWER QUESTION
I started coming to the Y in February and doing cardiovascular (treadmill and eliptical) machines about half an hour a day five days a week, after a few months started to work some dumbells, bench press and pull ups in. In my estimation I'm about 36 pounds heavier than I want to be. I lost about 15 pounds in the first few months but I can't seem to lose any more. I don't overeat and can't figure out what's keeping me from losing anymore. Any suggestions?

Will the trainers set up some type of program for me and what are the fees?

-Jerry

ANSWER ANSWER
Hi Jerry,
In addition to what the other trainers may advise, please consider the following.

It sounds like you have hit a plateau; which is common. Do you do your cardio before you do your weight training? If so, switch them up - do the weight training first, then do the cardio at the end of the session. Secondly, do you do the weight training and the cardio on the same day?

If your schedule allows, try alternating your weight training and cardio days.

You mentioned that you don't overeat; do you eat 5-6 times a day (small meals/snacks)?

Yes, please feel free to seek out any of the trainers at the Y and we will be glad to provide a walk-thru for you! You can check the schedule with the staff in the office.

Again, thank you for your inquiry! I hope this information help!

Regards,
