One of the key elements of a successful swim team program is a dedicated parents organization. Volunteering is critical to the overall administration and operations of the swim team. The YMCA strives to create an environment that provides the best quality programs for its participants. To achieve this high standard we need the commitment of our families. The swim team program is very conscious of the fact that our families have very busy and diverse schedules. For this reason, we understand that volunteering takes place on various levels and any time that you can provide to the team is appreciated.
When you register your swimmer for the team, we will ask that you sign up for one of our four committees listed below. Please keep in mind that you may serve on just one committee or multiple committees. As mentioned above, we do respect and appreciate that all families have busy schedules, so please know that the more volunteers we have to help operate our program…the better the team experience is for all swimmers and families.
The PICY swim team has four main committees that help to achieve specific objectives of running a successful swim team program. Each committee has its own chairperson and typically serves multiple needs of the team. The four committees responsibilities are defined below:
• Meet Committee: The meet committee is responsible for all aspects of running any scheduled home meets and the coordination of the Pumpkin Classic (please note that all committees do assist with the Pumpkin Classic Invitational Meet which is the signature home invitational swim meet that is put on by our team annually in October). The general responsibilities may include such items as timing, meet set-up and tear-down, hospitality, scoring, meet directors for Pumpkin Classic and other duties as assigned.
• Team Apparel Committee –This committee is responsible for handling all aspects of team suits, swim caps, warm-ups and other team apparel. This committee will also have responsibility for the design, ordering and distribution of the Pumpkin Classic Invitational shirts.
• Technology/Website Committee – The primary responsibilities of this committee include maintaining and updating our website, team email reminders for events and deadlines, communications with local newspapers and registration assistance.
• Social Committee: This committee primarily will oversee the coordination of team events (swimmer and family gatherings outside of regular swimming activities), the season ending banquet, the team bulletin board and coordination of the team pictures with our photography company. This committee will also have responsibility for coordination of all regional, championship and zone volunteers.
