Columbus, Ohio, Monday, November 12 - YMCA of the USA, the national resource office for the nation's 2,663 YMCAs, named Lewis Center resident Carla Kossoudji, director for the YMCA's Early Learning Center as Outstanding Child / Youth Director at their national YMCA EXPO Child Care, Afterschool, Youth Sports and Teens Conferences, held recently in Anaheim, Calif.
"Carla received this award for her outstanding performance in high quality programming; effective program leadership and commitment to children and families," said Barbara Roth, YMCA of the USA Specialty Consultant for early childhood and afterschool. "Her commitment to positive inclusiveness and diversity in programming and services to families has made a difference in the lives of the children and families this facility is able to serve."
Nominated by fellow staff, criteria for the award included leadership, community involvement, connection to the broader YMCA movement and collaboration with other child care and youth professionals.
"Throughout her YMCA career, Carla has demonstrated a passion and respect for children and their families that is exemplary. The Early Learning Center and the central Ohio community is blessed indeed to have Carla guiding the development and operation of our YMCA youth programs," said Becky Ciminillo, metropolitan childcare director for the YMCA of Central Ohio.
YMCA EXPO Orange County is a national event that brought together YMCA leaders who work with children and youth to be inspired, motivated and encouraged in their work and careers. The conferences held at this event included child care, early childhood, after school, youth sports, and teens. The theme, "You are a Star," was chosen to recognize the importance of the work that these leaders do in making a difference in the lives of children, youth and their families each day in local YMCAs. Conference highlights included key note sessions and workshops on industry-specific topics, networking, recognition of best practice programs and celebration of the YMCAs hard work.
