1855

1855 The original Columbus Young Men's Christian Association was founded, holding its first meetings at the downtown First Presbyterian Church.

1860s

1861-65 Columbus YMCA suspends activity due to Civil War.

1865 Columbus YMCA reorganized.

1870s

1870s OSU YMCA—originally a separate organization, but eventually absorbed into the Columbus YMCA.

1875 The current Association is organized, with headquarters at E. Long & N. High Streets.

1876 Railway YMCA—located on N. High St., Union Station, currently the site of the Greater Columbus Convention Center.

1890s

1893 original Central YMCA – located on S. Third St., currently the site of The Columbus Dispatch.

1900s

1902 YMCA Schools established, later spun off to form Franklin University.

1905 YMCA Law School established, later spun off as Capital University Law School.

1910s

1910 First YMCA camps established.

1917 South Side branch organized.

1919 Spring Street YMCA—located at the corner of E. Spring St. & N. Fifth Sts.

1920s

1921 YMCA Camp Willson—located in Bellefontaine, formerly Silver Lake Amusement Park.

1923 Town & Country branch organized.

1924 Central YMCA—oldest existing branch in the central Ohio association.

1928 Original South Side YMCA Park—locate along Big Walnut Creek.

1930s

1935 South Side YMCA—located at 864 South Third Street in German Village.

1940s

1946 South Side YMCA Park—was rededicated as Hoover Y-Park in 1966.

1948 orginial Hilltop YMCA—located on West Broad Street.

1960s

1960 new Hilltop YMCA—new building on Valleyview Drive.

1962 East Side YMCA—rededicated as Eldon W. Ward YMCA in 1997.

1963 new South Side YMCA—located on Southwood Street.

1967 North YMCA organized.

1968 Pickaway County YMCA organized.

1970s

1975—Suburban East YMCA organized.

1978 North YMCA—current location on Sandalwood Place opens.

1978 Pickaway County YMCA—current location on Nicholas Drive in Circleville opens.

1980s

1983 Cherry Creek site—facility donated to the YMCA and became part of the Hilltop YMCA.

1990s

1993 Suburban East YMCA—rededicated as Jerry L. Garver YMCA in 1997.

1997 Central YMCA—major renovation; placed on National Historic Registry.

1997 Southwest Community Center—YMCA assumed management through a request from the United Way of Central Ohio; charted as YMCA branch in 2001.

2000s

2001-2004—New suburban YMCAs—
Liberty Township/Powell, Grove City, Hilliard, and Gahanna open their doors; Eldon W. Ward YMCA renovated.
