ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following, other duties may be assigned:
Thinks, communicates and behaves as a cause-driven leader and role model for other staff and members when it comes to desired staff behaviors and healthy living practices.
Recruit, coordinate and implement all weekend and week-long groups (not outdoor education) to provide high quality, participant-centered service; ensuring that group leader evaluations are positive most of the time and negative comments are dealt with promptly and to the customer’s satisfaction.
Communicate effectively with all group leaders and/or participants (prior to, during and after their camping experience) to implement a smooth running program, meeting the group’s goals.
In conjunction with the Executive Director and YMCA Marketing Director, develop and implement a marketing and promotion plan for the Camp as related to the conference program; including a plan which encourages 50% or more retention of groups from year to year.
Recruit, train, supervise, mentor and evaluate staff and volunteers needed to implement programs for groups and the Center, ensuring responsibilities within all programs are executed in a manner to enhance the retention of campers and staff.
Create, develop, implement, market and evaluate specialty programs developed by Camp Willson based on comments by participants, with improvements made related to comments and personal experience. Assist in all aspects of the Christian Leadership Conference, Horselover’s Weekends, Winter Reunion, and Men’s Camp.
Assist with all summer camp related weekend programs. Summer Camp role will be determined on an annual basis depending on the current needs.
Take an active role in fundraising and the People Helping People Annual Giving Campaign, including a program for Women’s Weekend and Family Camp.
Oversee all aspects of the group initiatives course, Climbing Walls and High Ropes programs (training, facilitation, documentation, risk management), ensuring accidents are kept to a minimum. All accidents will be evaluated to determine how to minimize or eliminate the hazard.
Responsible for resale operations including, but not limited to the camp store and vending.
Develop, monitor and manage the budget for the Retreats and Group Camping cost center, keeping finances within or better than budget.
Develop and maintain records and statistics describing the Retreats and Group Camping program thoroughly and completely and in a timely fashion. Review and/or revise programs on an annual basis.
Communicate effectively and in a timely fashion with Support Services, Executive Director and other Program Directors to coordinate programs and needs of groups.
All areas of American Camp Association standards for Accreditation are met by 90% or greater each year.
Administrative functions, meeting attendance, substitute coverage.
Participation at YMCA of Central Ohio meetings and responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university and a minimum of 2 years experience in camping, hospitality or related area. Supervisory and budgeting experience. Strong program development and implementation skills as related to camping and/or hospitality. Strong interpersonal and human relations skills. Experience with adventure education and group facilitation. Marketing experience, strong computer skills, and YMCA camping background are all helpful
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Lifeguard certification and/or the ability to obtain certification is helpful. Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license and a clean driving record.
