Are you looking for another way to express your creativity or are you just wanting to learn new art mediums?
Then try one of our monthly art and/or theater classes!
Art class is for youth ages 6+ who love art! Each week students will participate in projects that explore various art mediums. Supplies are provided. We will also offer Adult Art workshops throughout the year, called Canvas, Spirits & Spread. These classes are usually held the last Friday of each month September through April. Spots are limited and reservations are a must.
Theater is our newest class here at the YMCA Creative Arts Center. The class includes instruction in technical, acting, and stage design and takes place in the Roundtown Theater located on the 2nd floor of Memorial Hall above our Creative Arts Center. All classes meet in the Creative Arts Center lobby before heading upstairs together. At the end of each session, the kids will perform a skit or monologue for family members.
We are going into our 5th year with our YMCA Dance Competition team. Students must be enrolled in our monthly dance classes to be eligible to tryout for the team, which will compete in 3-4 competitions per year. Clinics and tryouts are during the first week in August. For more information about our team, competitions and cost, contact Associate Director Natasha Anderson at 740-477-6099.
"Competition is healthy only if your self-esteem is not connected to your score, AND if you're dancing for the right reasons." In order to become a better artist, you must always strive to look at the big picture. So, what's the big picture? Part of the big picture is to remember that dance is an art form, not a football game. There are no winners and losers like in a sport or a game. It you think competitions are about awards and medals, then you're not dancing for the right reasons."
